Your First Sound Bath: How to Prepare

The HEALIVERSE team·Oct 26, 2026·3 min read

A first sound bath can feel a little uncertain: what to wear, whether you need to meditate, what if you fall asleep. The good news is you barely need to prepare. Here are a few small things that make the first time easier.

A sound bath is a relaxation session where you lie still, close your eyes and listen to the long tones of crystal bowls, Himalayan bowls and gong. No meditation or music experience needed. You just lie down and listen.

A simple timeline

  1. The day before. Sleep well if you can and go easy on alcohol. If you’re pregnant, have a history of seizures or are sensitive to loud sounds, let us know in advance.
  2. An hour before. Eat something light, not too hungry and not too full. Sip some water and skip strong coffee if you want to relax deeply.
  3. When you arrive. Come 15 minutes early to store your things and choose a spot. Sessions start on time, and late arrivals don’t extend the session.
  4. During the session. Silence your phone and get comfortable. You can shift position, add a blanket or step out if needed. Just move gently.
  5. Afterwards. Sit up slowly and drink some water. Share how it felt, or simply head home quietly.

What to bring, and what you don’t need

BringNo need
ClothesLoose, comfortable clothes and a light layerSpecial workout gear
ThingsA water bottle, a hair tie for long hairMats, pillows, blankets (we provide them)
MindsetCuriosity, a willingness to let goMeditation experience or music knowledge
PhoneOn silent, stored awayTaking photos while listening
Guests under blankets listening to singing bowlsA facilitator playing bowls next to a guest

What will you feel?

It’s different for everyone. Some feel warm and heavy, some see images or old memories, some sleep until the Tingsha cymbals mark the end. Sometimes nothing special happens and it’s simply 90 minutes without your phone. That’s fine too.

If your mind keeps wandering, don’t force it to be still. Each time you notice, come back to the sound.

A sound bath is a relaxation experience, not a treatment. Please talk to your doctor or tell the facilitator beforehand if you’re pregnant, have a history of seizures, use a hearing aid or implanted device, or are sensitive to loud sounds.

A few booking tips

  • The midday group session has 3 to 6 guests, a gentle size for a first visit.
  • You can reschedule once with at least 2 hours’ notice, or transfer your spot to someone else.
  • Not sure between a group and a private session? Message us on WhatsApp for free advice.

Got questions? We’ve got answers

Is it okay to fall asleep?

Absolutely. Falling asleep is very common, especially at midday. The facilitator will gently bring everyone back with the Tingsha at the end.

Do I have to lie still for 90 minutes?

No. You can change position, add a pillow or sit up when you need to. Just move gently so you don’t disturb others.

Can I come alone?

Yes. Most guests come to group sessions on their own, and nobody has to introduce themselves or talk.

Are sessions in English?

Yes. Kennedy leads sessions in English for international guests. Book online or message WhatsApp +84 939 624 684.
